Ghanoon writes of the severe difference in the pay of male and female rice paddy workers. The daily wage for male rice paddy workers is from 800 thousand one million IRRs while women earn 400 to 600 thousand IRRs. The article continues that since workers spend up to 10 hours in knee high water, they are exposed to numerous problems such as infections, being bitten by leeches and arthritis; none of which are covered by the employers. Approximately 5% of women who manage households are from Mazandaran Province. There are a total of 2.56 million women in Iran who manage their households.
