Marlboro coming or not?
It is months of negotiations whether production license of Marlboro will be given to Iranian Tobacco Company or to a private-owned company. It seems that Ministry of Industry and Trade is supporting the scenario that a private company should be given the license. Iranian Tobacco Company, strongly against this scenario, asks the Government not to permit any plant-building, as otherwise this company would lose its share in the market more than ever. Although, Iranian Tobacco Company was one of the successful companies in Iran up to a decade ago, due to lack of proper management, pricing policies the company is in serious difficulties.
Most of foreign cigarette brands coming to Iran are smuggled.
