Tehran has 280 active mines which annually mines 28 million tons of various minerals. Most of these minerals mined around Tehran are materials used in construction such as lime, rubble trench and gravel.
Mines in Tehran province provides jobs to 3500 people which is about 3 percent of the total jobs in mining industry in Iran.
In recent decades construction in Tehran was booming due to immigration toward the capital and rising prices. It therefore led to flourishing in related industries. However, recent recession at the housing market has slowed down this trend which can affect other factories and manufacturers too. Particularly those activities which are less economic and profitable in case of transportation of their products such as stones and limes.
