Further developments for aviation industry

The head of the Civil Aviation Organization announced ten new airlines to become operational in the next 6 months.

The Ministry of Roads and Urbanization has set three main conditions in order to grant airline operation licenses. These conditions are: a minimum capital of 3500 billion IRR ($108m), provision of new aircraft (purchased or on loan) where at the time of purchase the aircrafts are newer than 15 years old and the ownership of at least 5 airplanes. Currently operational airlines must also abide by these conditions.

The Head of the Iranian Association of Airlines, Maghsoud Asadi Samani, said: “Due to new openings in the aviation industry such as lifting of aviation sanctions and the deregulation of ticket prices, investors have become interested in this industry. The deregulation of ticket prices can have a great effect on the economy of the aviation industry and in the long term can revolutionize the economic and management structures. Furthermore, with the lifting of sanctions, the cost of providing an airline fleet has been significantly reduced.”

To this end, the country’s airports also seek to renovate and improve their services.

The Director General of Mehrabad Airport pointed to the 400 daily flights at this airport and said: “In order to increase passenger capacity plans to install smart systems are being carried out. We plan to increase the annual capacity of Mehrabad Airport by 25% to 30%.”

Based on figures released by this airport, last year 17 million passengers traveled via Mehrabad Airport to make this airport the busiest in the country.
