West Azerbaijan main honey supplier

Reaching the 40th anniversary of the Iranian Revolution, several organizations in Iran report their achievements within this period. So does the West Azerbaijan Office of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The north-western province of Iran provides 30 percent of the country’s demand for honey.

“In 1979, the production of honey in our region was less than 1000 tones a year”, says Rasoul Jalili, Head of West Azerbaijan Agriculture Office. “This year, our total production of honey reached 22,000 tones”.

West Azerbaijan with more than one million hectares of arable land, is one of the most fertile zones of Iran. Apart from honey, this province also produces one-third of Iran’s apple and sugar-beetroot too.
