Quality of gasoline: main reason for pollution

Ebtekar reports on the quality of gasoline in large cities for the second time this year, stating that the gasoline is not qualified for the euro 4 standard. The amount of sulfur in gasoline in the euro 4 standard is 50 ppm. In the test run by the National Standards Organization, the amount of sulfur was 60 ppm. Deputy Attorney General, Mohammadjavad Heshmati concurred that all of the relevant organizations are in agreement that 80% of the pollution is due to the low quality of gasoline and diesel being used. Yet, nothing is being done to rectify the situation and authorities still claim that the gasoline has euro 4 standards.

The Japanese are to assist Tehran Municipality is assessing the air quality in Tehran. Donya-e-Eghtesad quotes Mohammad Ali Najafi, the Mayor of Tehran and writes: 4 different devices used to monitor and control air pollution valued at 11.3 million dollars will be placed in Tehran as gifts from Japan. It remains to be seen if the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will offer consultation to help Tehran Municipality out of this crisis.
