China and Swiss cooperation with the Iranian wagon industry

Deputy Director of Transportation Industry Development at the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) announced the addition of European made aluminum wagons to the nation’s rail network at a reasonable price. Donya-e-Eghtesad quoted Behruz Etemadi as having said that 5 million people travel to Tehran every day. The only way to prevent additional traffic and pollution is by developing the urban rail network. A public auction has been held to supply 630 subway cars for Tehran Metro and these cars will become operational from 2020. These wagons are to jointly be built by Tehran Wagon Manufacture and the China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC).

In addition, in winter 2017, an agreement for the supply and manufacture of 450 subway cars for Ahwaz, Shiraz and Tabriz was reached between IDRO and Chinese Pooja. Another agreement for 960 subway cars for the Tehran and Karaj subway has been finalized with Swiss Stadler.
