Ali Larijani: ban on imported goods could be successful

Iran Newspaper quotes the Chairman of the Parliament, Ali Larijani as saying that because so far there has been no executive guarantee, all plans to support domestic industries have met with failure. On this basis, Mr. Larijani has asked the Minister of Industries to present a list of goods to be banned from import every year. He believes the plan can be successful if carried out correctly. As an example, he reminded the success of the ban on importing alcoholic drinks since the Islamic Revolution.

In a meeting with the Chairman of the Parliament, Ali Shariatmadari, Minister of Industries announced that the renovation of domestic industries is a prime concern. So far, due to budget constrains the plan has been moving slowly. However in the new year, new resources have been assigned to the project and the efficiency of the project is expected to increase.
